Beach Lifeguard courses 2012 starting this February

West Cornwall Adventure is running the SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Course throughout the summer of 2012. It all starts this February with the first course running over the half term from the 13th – 18th February 2012. This course is the earliest in the country and is perfect for those wishing to gain their beach lifeguard award before the opening of the RNLI lifeguard recruitment for this summer. October Beach Lifeguard Course

WCA will be running the final SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Award this October 24th – 29th October 2011 (half term) at Portreath Beach. The course is already over half full as it is a perfect time to get qualified before the 2012 lifeguard season and before the applications open.

Better Late Than Never!

Things have been a little hectic as the West Cornwall Adventure Team gear up for summer.

A round-up of the last few months includes a successful day out with the SAS, helping out with the Motivocean Beach Clean at Poldhu in February. A good crew of youngsters turned up, after an interesting talk all about the various sources of litter we find on our beaches, everyone set to work returning with bag after bag of all sorts of rubbish. Small conditions meant the surf lesson rewards offered to the 16-25 yr old paricipants had to be postponed (anyone that hasn’t yet claimed their lesson, please get in touch).

March saw a fantastic bunch of ladies celebrating a hen-do in style up at Gwel-an-mor, with a invigorating mid-morning surf lesson to blow away the cobwebs.

Into April, summer seemed to arrive early. The water was a little chilly still, but calm conditions were ideal for kayaking and exploring the coast.

May and the sun had his hat on (or off?) either way, he was nowhere to be seen. This doesn’t seem to have deterred our keen customers, with surfing, kayaking and coasteering sessions taking place most days. School surfing kicked off again for the term, with groups from local primary schools eager to hit the water.

Out of the water WCA has been busy running HSE First Aid At Work for NHS Staff and local schools as well as SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Award courses for new and returning RNLI Beach Lifeguards.

Off to a good start, just some sunshine now please!

WCA and SAS team up for Motivocean

West Cornwall Adventure has teamed up with Surfers Against Sewage for Motivocean, Beach Clean & Watersports tour.

Join the team of volunteers this Saturday 22nd January at Poldhu Cove, 11am and help protect your local beach and surfspot.

Volunteer to clean up marine litter & get a free surf lesson, beach sports experience or other rewards.

Beach Lifeguard Courses 2011

Dates have now been set for our 2011 SLSGB Beach Lifeguard courses. New this year, we will also be running the SLSGB Surf Coach Lifesaving Award and Coasteering Lifesaving award.

We offer the full 1 week beach lifeguard award or the 1 day beach lifeguard refresher (annual proficiency). The surf coach lifesaving and coasteering lifesaving awards are run over 2 days. All courses take place at Portreath Beach and include course and examination fees, manuals, SLSGB membership, 1 year public liability insurance and personal accident insurance.

The SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Award is the prerequisite for working as a beach lifeguard for the RNLI, as well as being recognised internationally.
