West Cornwall Adventure is running Surf Life Saving Great Britain's NARS beach lifeguard course throughout the summer 2010. The NARS beach lifeguard award is the prerequisite for working as a beach lifeguard for the RNLI or local authority lifeguard service and the BSA surf instructor award. The NARS beach lifeguard award is also recognised by the international lifesaving federation (ILS) and accepted throughout the world by lifeguard services including those in Australia and New Zealand.

All courses are run from Portreath Surf Life Saving Club, one of the UK's best lifeguard and training facilities. The courses run over six days, with training taking place Monday to Friday and the final examination on the Saturday.

The course covers five main areas:

Fitness

Lifeguard skills, knowledge and rescues

Spinal Management

Emergency Life Support

Emergency first aid

The minimum age for the course is 16 years old, all candidates must have a good level of fitness, including being able to swim 400m in under seven and half minutes and be able to run 200m in under forty seconds.

Award is valid for two years.

Accommodation can be arrange if required.

We also offer refresher and update courses for current holders of the NARS beach lifeguard award.
